[ PROJECT OVERVIEW ]

A heritage commercial building at 43 Brook Green sensitively reworked with new glazing systems and a contemporary rooftop extension enclosed in slim-sightline curtain walling.

43 Brook Green is a period commercial building in Hammersmith that received a full interior repositioning together with a new rooftop office storey. Delta Facades installed the replacement heritage-profile glazing to the retained elevations and the contemporary curtain wall enclosure to the rooftop extension — two very different systems meeting at a single, carefully-detailed parapet line. The result reads as a respectful continuation of the original building rather than an addition sitting on top of it.

[ METHODOLOGY ]

The retained openings were laser-scanned to derive frame sizes that would match the historic sightlines exactly. The rooftop curtain wall was installed off an independent edge-protection scaffold with a spider crane, allowing the existing roof structure to remain untouched until the last possible moment.

[ CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS ]
  • Matching new glazing sightlines to the retained heritage elevations
  • Coordinating the rooftop extension curtain wall with existing structure of unknown tolerances
  • Craning glazed units to roof level over a live Hammersmith street
  • Achieving current thermal and acoustic standards within slim heritage-style frames
[ MATERIALS ]
  • Slim-sightline heritage-profile aluminium windows
  • Rooftop stick curtain walling with high-performance IGUs
  • Concealed thermal breaks and warm-edge spacers
